Introduction

The present tablet consists of two rejoined pieces, one in the Kuyunjik collection (British Museum) and one in the Schøyen collection (Norway). Both pieces preserve the lower part of a “hemerological compilation.”1 The obverse of the tablet contains an abridged version of the series of menological divination Iqqur īpuš in tabular format, whereas its reverse contains a list of “lucky days” and a series of protases from the series Iqqur īpuš to which some explanations are appended. These explanations are identical to those found in other commented excerpts from Iqqur īpuš in “hemerological compilations,” such as the Neo-Babylonian tablets MLC 2627 (CCP 3.8.1.B) and BM 50634 (CCP 3.8.1.E).

The most arresting feature of the present tablet is its colophon, which states that the tablet is a compilation, and specifies its sources. The colophon represents the tablet as a list of “Favorable days, which are good to accomplish any plan, and for a person to achieve any goal.” According to the colophon, the commentarial explanations have been excerpted from a longer commentary: “together with twenty-five lines extracted from its mukallimtu-commentary.” The colophon also states the the tablets used for the compilation came from Babylon.

The edition below is greatly indebted to the editio princeps: A. R. George, Mesopotamian Incantations and Related Texts in the Schøyen Collection. CDL Press, 2016. Pp. 169-172.
