Introduction

This fragment preserves remains of a commentary on an unidentified text. The first two lines of the reverse probably explain Jupiter’s name dapīnu, “violent,” which means that the base text might be astrological. However, a rare explanation found in r 2, according to which the hapax legomenon raḫāmu would mean šasû, “to shout,” can also be found in SpTU 3, 99 l. 39 (CCP 3.5.u2.a), a commentary on bird omens.

The fragment belongs to the 81-11-3 consignment, which has yielded multiple commentaries on divinatory texts (for a list, see here).

1DU₆.DU = dapānu ša narkabti is attested in Diri I 213 and Antagal III 35 (see CAD D 104a). Note also in CCP 3.1.3.E r 11′: TI : da-pa-nu šá ma-ʾa-di.

2The same explanation can be found in SpTU 3, 99 l. 39. (CCP 3.5.u2.a).
